Stinger 40 Watt - 1 Acre Review
In past years Dupage County (just outside of Chicago) had a mosquito abatement program. For some reason this year perhaps because of budget constraints that have abandoned the program for this year. With that said I had to find alternatives since West Nile is alive and well in our area. I looked into the mosquito magnet and after reading the reliability issues I opted against it. I then looked into bug zappers (I grew up with one in MI and it worked extraordinarily well) I decided on the Stinger 40 based on the design and it is a decision that I am very happy to have made. As I speak I can hear it zapping away and for the naysayers that say these things don't work I would like to invite over to clean it out of all the mosquito carcasses that I empty every few days (easy use compressed air) My best advice for those who have trouble with these is to make sure you are at least 25 feet from a deck or a patio. The zapper with the attractant will give you tremendous results just be sure to follow the manufacture recommendations...

This zapper worked for a couple of years. Then I got a second zapper, a Flowtron to cover the other side of the house. Every couple of weeks I would clean the Stinger zapper out with compressed air. Just blast some air thru it and a cloud of dead bugs sprays out of the zapper. I have done this since it was new. The new square zapper requires this at the end of the year only. I am not going to replace the bulb in the Stinger this time. I am going to buy another Flowtron zapper.

While I found this item to be efficient for killing mosquitoes, the construction quality is very low-the top, using the hanger provided, pulled lose from the attachment posts and started pulling apart within the first season of use. In addition, the bulbs have life of about six weeks. I will stay away from this brand in the future.
